On the morning of July 8, 2023, the Ceremony of Announcement and Presentation of the Prime Minister's Decision on the renaming of Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry (HUFI) to Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT) took place.

Attending the ceremony, the invited guests include:

- Dr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan - Member of the Party Executive Committee, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT);

- Dr. Le Viet Nga - Deputy Head of the MoIT’s Domestic Market Department;

- Ms. Ngo Thi Dieu Thuy - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Industry and Trade Magazine;

Established since 1982, undergoing four upgrades and name changes, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry is one of the leading applied-oriented higher education institutions in training, scientific research, and technology transfer. Starting from July 1, 2023, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry officially embraces a new identity - with a new name, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade.

In this significant event, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, presented the Prime Minister's decision to rename Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry as Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade. He also praised the notable achievements in education and training of the university. Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan expressed his hopes, saying, "With its new identity, I hope the university will have more opportunities for development and integration. The collective of faculty, lecturers, and students will continue to work diligently, study, and strive for excellence on this new journey."

In the welcoming speech by the university's leadership, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan emphasized, "The renaming of the university is both an opportunity and a challenge as it may have certain impacts on the brand and the admissions process. However, the university has recognized this and proactively planned and implemented solutions to minimize risks. The university will expand its training programs in high-demand fields, increase the scale of education, and construct new infrastructure to provide a skilled workforce, enhancing both quantity and quality, particularly in the industrial and trade sectors. The university's staff will also have better opportunities working in a dynamic and modern environment, creating new motivation for effective work, innovation, and wholehearted dedication to the continuous development of the university."
