Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming various fields and education is no exception. In recent years, AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT have made impacts in the education sector, and on March 2nd their applications in education and research were discussed in a recent talkshow hosted by the Faculty of Chemical Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry (HUFI).

Overview of the Talkshow

Talkshow " Effectively and responsibly apply ChatGPT in education and research activities in universities" presented by Assoc. Prof. Ngo Thanh An, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology. This talkshow was organized to explore the potential of ChatGPT in enhancing the learning experience of university students, providing a basic understanding of the benefits and risks, potential opportunities when applying ChatGPT in training and scientific research activities in universities.

Presenter Ngo Thanh An

During the talk, Assoc. Prof. Ngo Thanh An highlighted different ways ChatGPT can be effectively used in training and scientific research. One of the main advantages of ChatGPT is its ability to provide personalized feedback on assignments, allowing students to identify areas they need to improve on, and providing educators with an effective use of their time. In addition, ChatGPT can provide students with instant feedbacks, allowing them to quickly resolve any misunderstandings and misconceptions.

Another way ChatGPT can be used in education is through its ability to provide answers to learners' questions quickly and accurately. This not only saves time, but also allows students to gain a better understanding of the subject.

Through several research results mentioned in this talkshow, it can be seen that ChatGPT has been used to analyze large amounts of data and generate insights that can be difficult for humans to discover on their own. This can help researchers identify patterns and connections that may be missed, accelerating the pace of scientific discovery.

Lecturers experience ChatGPT

While there are many potential benefits of using ChatGPT in education and research, there are also ethical concerns that need to be addressed. One such concern is the risk to the privacy and security of student data. It is important to ensure that student data is handled responsibly and that student privacy is protected when using ChatGPT.

Another concern is the risk that learners will become too dependent on ChatGPT and fail to develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed to succeed in the real world. Educators need to ensure that ChatGPT is used as a tool to enhance learning, not as a substitute for critical thinking and human interaction.

After the seminar, all faculty members of the Faculty of Chemical Technology were asked to fill out a form committing to use ChatGPT responsibly in education and research. This proactive measure ensures that the implementation of ChatGPT is done in a way that promotes student engagement and success while minimizing potential risks.
